| Figures released by the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) suggest that an estimated £9.2 billion could be owing to patients who have received substandard hospital care and treatment. These new figures relate to claims of clinical negligence, some dating back over twenty years, which predict the likely payout for claims yet to be settled. The Chief Executive of the NHSLA, Stephen Walker, said “The cost of settling these claims is going up much faster than inflation.
