| Personal Injury News: British employers should take more care over their employee’s safety |
| Over one hundred thousand businesses use fork lift trucks and at least one employee is injured every day according to the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA), the official representative of the fork lift truck industry. This week the FLTA has urged businesses to improve their safety procedures or risk the serious injury or death of even more employees. The Chief Executive for FLTA, David Ellison, says “Fork lift trucks are an absolutely essential part of industry and commerce, and are responsible at some stage for moving almost every product you can buy. Nonetheless, such powerful machines are extremely dangerous if not treated with appropriate respect. It is a scandalous toll, proving that too many companies simply do not take their safety responsibilities seriously enough.” Studies conducted by the FLTA, have revealed issues regarding safety, including the wearing of seat belts. Reports released by the Health and Safety Executive detail that serious injuries are occurring on a daily basis and a UK worker is killed by a fork lift truck every six weeks. The FLTA is now offering fork lift truck users guidance on safe and efficient operation in varying formats in an attempt to reduce the accident rate.
