| Personal Injury News: Building company owner sentenced to prison |
| The owner of a building company has been jailed for six months for two breaches of Health and Safety regulations and of breaching a prohibition notice following an incident which has rendered an employee in constant need of care. The court also ordered Bradford-based businessman Shah Nawaz Pola to pay compensation of £90,000 to the injured employee, Dusan Dudi. Mr Pola denied responsibility towards his workers and pleaded not guilty to the charges of breaching health and safety regulations however the court heard that workers were paid £30 per day and were not provided with suitable protective equipment. On passing sentence, the Judge said "All you were concerned about was getting the job done and getting it done as cheaply as possible.” Mr Pola, whose solicitor has already lodged an appeal against the conviction, has been ordered to pay 25 per cent of the compensation within six months and was also fined an additional £1,500.
