| Personal Injury News: Cadbury fined over salmonella claim |
| The Birmingham based chocolate maker, Cadbury, has been fined £1m for causing a national salmonella outbreak which affected more than 40 people. The confectioner was also ordered to settle court costs of more than £152,000 by the presiding judge at the city’s Crown Court earlier today. Cadbury have issued an apology and said that they accepted the imposed fine after pleading guilty to nine food safety offences. A spokesman said: "Quality has always been at the heart of our business, but the process we followed in the UK in this instance has been shown to be unacceptable. "We have apologised for this and do so again. In particular, we offer our sincere regrets and apologies to anyone who was made ill as a result of this failure." Over a million products were recalled by Cadbury in June last year and they have admitted to spending more than £20m on improvements, including changes to its quality control procedures.
