| Drugs used to treat sufferers of HIV have been recalled amid fears they could contain a carcinogenic substance. Batches of the drug, Viracept, have been contaminated with a genotoxic substance and have now been recalled, are taken by hundreds of people in the UK. Whilst the incident was the result of human error, as it occurred when two chemicals, one of which was a cleaner, reacted in a container where the drug was produced, it is not believed to be a deliberate act as there is no evidence to support this. Advice from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) suggested that patients should contact their doctors immediately.
