| Personal Injury News: Cosmetic Surgery on the Increase |
| Women have been indulging in cosmetic surgery for decades however an audit carried out by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons details a 20% increase in men going under the knife compared with 2006. Breast reductions, tummy tucks and liposuction is the surgery of choice for our men whilst women are opting for boob jobs and facelifts. Data from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) shows that men favoured nose jobs followed by liposuction whilst boob jobs remain the most common operation for women, followed by eyelid surgery and face/neck lifts. Douglas McGeorge, consultant plastic surgeon and president of BAAPS, said: "Wide media coverage has helped to educate the public about the latest advances and choices available, but it is crucial that people do their research carefully when choosing a provider." However a recent survey, conducted by the Sunday Express, found that unqualified practitioners are carrying out some beauty procedures without first completing the correct training. Dr Rajiv Grover, secretary for the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons said: “The rate of complications depends on the operator. Some people don’t realise that no permanent wrinkle-filler is safe and no safe filler is permanent.” A spokeswoman for the Department of Health said: “Laws apply to these procedures and we have asked the independent healthcare advisory services to establish a regulatory regime, but it is vital the public also inform themselves fully of the potential risks and consequences. People undertake these procedures by choice and they are not provided by the Health Service. A balance has to be struck as to how far the taxpayer should be expected to pay for regulation and policing of regulation for such procedures.” Source: news-medical.net 2008/02/04 et al. ![]() More News:- Cosmetic Surgery on the Increaseomen have been indulging in cosmetic surgery for decades however an audit carried out by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons details....
