| Personal Injury News: Criminal injury compensation claim turns out to be a hoax |
| A man has appeared in court charged with perverting the course of justice after he claimed he was attacked with a nail gun. David Russell of Gloucester alleged he had been attacked by a gang of youths who had shot him repeatedly with a nail gun narrowly missing his heart earlier this year, however, Gloucester Crown Court later heard that this attack was a hoax, in a bid to claim compensation, as the ‘victim’ had inflicted these injuries on himself. The Court also heard that Russell had previously received over £4,000 in criminal injuries compensation from an earlier claim of a fictitious attack. Russell pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and the Judge advised that he would likely face a prison sentence. The court heard that Russell had recently lost his job and was under financial pressure to support his partner, who was on maternity leave. Mr Russell was remanded on bail to return to court for sentencing in November.
