| Personal Injury News: Insurance cover warning for those participating in holiday activities |
| According to Dr Foster, demand for personal injury solicitors may increase this summer, as the number of adventure sport holiday accidents increase. The medical research company found the number of adventure holiday victims had increased by a third in the past five years and as it is estimated that 200,000 Brits are expected to need medical treatment this summer, the figure is likely to reach an all time high. One million tourists have been injured in the past five years during an activity holiday and research by AXA insurance has revealed that almost two million travellers did not take out any insurance to cover for any injuries. The travel insurance manager at AXA, Pat Brady, said, "They think nothing will happen to them. This is true in the majority of cases, but for the sake of rare occasions when things do go wrong it makes sense to pay the few extra pounds it costs to take out travel insurance for peace of mind." Activities such as paragliding or jet skiing are rarely covered by standard travel insurance policies but also, anyone participating in specialist activities will encounter problems in securing insurance cover. Director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, Richard Mason, warned that "Rock climbing or bungee jumping might add to the holiday experience, but many insurers such as Marks & Spencer, Post Office and Norwich Union Direct classify these as dangerous sports and will not cover you in their standard policies if anything goes wrong." While research suggests that the youngest age bracket, 18-24 year olds, are most at risk of holiday accidents, many people over 65 may also seek the expertise of personal injury solicitors, as one in five are plan adventurous trips each year.
