| Personal Injury News: MP3 players spark compensation worries |
| Researchers in Canada have suggested that a high number of people, who use MP3 players, may notice a hearing loss sparking fears of a compensation claim epidemic. President of the Hearing Foundation of Canada, Richard Bowring, said, “People used to notice hearing loss in their 60s. Now they are noticing it in their 40s.” The foundation advises users of personal stereo equipment to adhere to the directives of audiologists and keep within the 60/60 rule, sixty per cent of maximum volume for no longer than sixty minutes at any one time. This advice should help to reduce the risk of hearing loss and equally the need to submit a claim for compensation. The Worker's Compensation Board, the authority responsible for dealing with deafness compensation claims, has stated that almost 30% of young workers are already showing some signs of hearing loss.
