Personal Injury News: MRSA failings result in hospital warning
Following an unexpected visit to a North London hospital by Healthcare Commission inspectors, concerns have again been raised regarding the standard of hygiene. The Healthcare Commission found serious breaches in the hygiene code at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust and it has subsequently become the first in the country to receive an official warning for exposing patients to the risk of MRSA and C.difficile superbugs and has been ordered to make immediate changes.

Three months have been allowed in order to comply and the chief executive of the Healthcare Commission, Anna Walker, has said, “I hope this sends out a strong message to all trusts that we will not hesitate to use our powers when it comes to enforcing the Hygiene Code. It is absolutely critical that the trust is able to say it is doing everything possible to control infection.”

Following extra investment and a new anti-infection policy the trust believe they are now ‘winning the battle’.

This inspection was part of a nationwide series of spot checks on standards of hygiene, which was launched last month by the commission, however to date, only 11 of the 120 hospitals have so far been visited.
