| Personal Injury News: NHS 24 facing legal action |
| The family of a teenage girl have this month lodged their intention to sue NHS 24 following a claim that the service failed to provide appropriate care to the young girl. Shomi Miah, from Aberdeen, died in 2004 of meningitis after being advised by a nurse, over the telephone, that she probably had flu, even though the 17-year old gave her symptoms and explained that she had previously suffered from meningitis. The family’s lawyer, Sandy Kemp, said that the legal action was based on NHS 24’s failure to take appropriate steps on hearing the symptoms and the family further claim that she was advised to take paracetamol and put a towel over her head. In the early of hours of the morning a doctor was called to the family home and she was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she later died. A Fatal Accident Inquiry last year ruled that it was "tragically clear" the NHS 24 system failed the teenager.
