| Personal Injury News: NHS trusts failing hygiene targets |
| According to a report released by the Healthcare Commission, NHS trusts are failing to meet key targets aimed at tackling bugs like MRSA. Nationally, a total of 55 trusts are failing to hit the minimum standards or had insufficient evidence to say they met the standard for hygiene and the Healthcare Commission will now be performing a series of ‘spot checks’ across the nations hospitals to ensure the governments standards are being met. In April, figures released by the Health Protection Agency showed there were 3,600 cases of C difficile in patients aged 65 and over in England last year, up from 2,774 in 2005. Chief executive of the Healthcare Commission, Anna Walker, said that she wanted to 'applaud trusts that have put their hands up'. She added: "Where a trust has declared significant non-compliance, we will be following that up with their strategic health authority. We will come down harder where we find non-compliance in practice."
