| Personal Injury News: Record personal injury payout |
| A schoolboy has received a record payout following a car accident, which left him with disabled, and requiring round the clock care. Waseem Sarwar, a 17-year-old A-level student at the time, when the car he was travelling in as a rear seat passenger in September 2001 ploughed off Carr Road in Nelson before finally coming to rest in a hedge. Mr Sarwar suffered multiple fractures in the accident and also contracted MRSA whilst in hospital and will now require care for the rest of his life which has been estimated at almost £180,000 a year. The driver of the vehicle was not insured at the time of the incident and the injury claim was therefore submitted to the industry body that compensates victims of uninsured drivers, the Motor Insurers Bureau. Although the MIB have only agreed to pay 75% of the award to Mr Sarwar as he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident; he will still receive in excess of £7.1 million.
