Personal Injury News: Toxic substance discovered in toothpaste
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has revealed that counterfeit tubes of Sensodyne toothpaste have been found with traces of a toxic chemical, which could be harmful to children and those with kidney or liver problems. The bogus tubes contain diethylene glycol (DEG).

The affected batch of 50ml tubes, batch code is PROD 07 2005/EXP 08/2008, of Sensodyne Original and Sensodyne Mint, have been sold and the packets have both English and Arabic writing on the packaging and have been supplied on markets and at car boot sales.

GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturers of Sensodyne, have stated that it does not use DEG in any of its toothpaste and the medicine watchdog did not have any evidence of any consumers suffering adverse reactions to the bogus toothpaste and have advised consumers to dispose of any they may have.

"We believe that elderly patients may have purchased this stock due to lower prices in markets, discount shops and car boot sales," the MHRA added.
