| Personal Injury News: Wobbly step woman gets £100,000 compensation |
| A lady has been awarded over £100,000 in compensation following a fall outside her home, which resulted in a broken arm. Agnes Wilson hit her head during the fall and does not recall any detail of the incident in 1999. After finding Glasgow City Council had been negligent, the court ruled that Mrs Wilson should receive £108,000 in damages. The award was reduced from the previous agreed total of £145,000, as the judge believed Mrs Wilson was partly responsible for the fall and stated “contributory negligence.” The local authority originally claimed there was nothing wrong with the steps and contested the civil action. However, the court heard from a neighbour of Mrs Wilson that a previous complaint had been made to the council about the steps being loose.
